Sizzix Eileen Hull Launch Party!

Today is the day! Eileen’s fabulous new release is here. It’s actually an old classic making a re-appearance and I’m delighted about that as I missed this when it was first out.

Here’s what Eileen had to say about it, “You asked for it- we did it! The Classic Cantilever Sewing Box, Embroidery Hoop and Needle Book dies have been brought back because you asked 🙂 These dies all relate to stitching but of course may also be used in other ways. They are all Bigz dies which are so versatile because of the number of materials that may be cut with them.

I have fond memories of my Mom’s wooden sewing box and designed this Cantilever Sewing Box to replicate that. It’s great for storing sewing supplies like needles, thread, buttons, floss and pins- but it also works for hair bands and clips, small storage items, jewelry, desk organization and small treats. Use the drawers separately to organize your desk drawers or create a shadowbox- so many ways to use! Finished size is

3 1/2” x 6 1/4” x 2 1/4”.

The Embroidery Hoop measures 4” and is designed to be cut from thick material such as matboard or chipboard. You can actually tuck thin fabrics in the hoop and stitch on them. Or you can die cut from paper and use the hoop on card fronts. Use the pieces separately or all together.

The Needle Book is also a ScoreBoard die and features a pretty scalloped edge to the book. It measures 3 1/2” x 2 1/4″ x 1/2″ and is perfect for storing your stitching needles and pins- works great when made from felt! But it can also be made from matboard, chipboard, leather or fabric- one of the benefits of the Bigz dies.

Even though I really can’t sew at all, I’m really enjoying creating with these dies. The Cantilever box could be used for some many things (and those that like to customise could very easily adapt the design to create all sorts of configurations). 

The Needle book makes a very cute mini notebook too, and it’s very easy to add little notebooks or pages to it if you don’t want to use fabric or felt to make a needle book.

I think the embroidery hoop is my favourite though, because really, an embroidery hoop is just a really nice way to frame all sorts of art. It can be cut from card or mountboard and be used on a card front or as a stand-alone frame. It’s just a nice size to work with, and I know I’ll be using this a lot.

Christmas Journal using the Sizzix Eileen Hull Field Notes Journal die

This month we have the theme of Comfort & Joy in the Eileen Hull Fanclub FB group, and I really wanted to create a Christmas journal where I can add some of my favourite recipes, and maybe some photos.

I had a happy accident with the cover. While die cutting the covers, I had decided to have the pale blue patterned card on the front, and the lovely mistletoe pattern inside. I accidentally put my mat board the wrong way up on my Bigz die and had just started to run it through when I realised.

I quickly stopped, but I had made a bit of a cut into the mat board. Rather than toss it and start again, I decided I’d just cover it. So I took some rose gold texture roll, used the die to cut just a small panel to go over the ends, then I embossed it with the Woven Leather embossing folder. I put it front and back, and inside and out, and it covered my little mistake beautifully, and in fact adds a really nice feature. It’s something I wouldn’t have thought to do, but I’m really glad my mistake made me think of it!

I used the little frame from the die to create a backdrop for my little nutcracker, and I added some white pigment ink to give it a distressed look.

The papers used throughout the journal are from P13 Paper and the collection is called Christmas Charm.

For the inside pages, I used the die to create shaped pages from kraft card. I sandwiched a hinge of plain card between two die cut pages so that I could then tie them into the journal with seam binding.

I decided to have some pages that were purely decorative, then just a few with panels where I can add my recipes.

I used the Skinny Mini Elements die to create a bit of interest behind these two panels, and throughout the journal I have added paint splatters with white acrylic paint to give a snowy feel.

This panel has the perfect blank space for me to add a recipe. I haven’t fully stuck down the mistletoe piece so I can tuck something in underneath.

There’s another nice space for a recipe here too.

I used some Sizzix texture paste and a Studio Light stencil just to add a bit of added texture to this page. The images in this paper collection are quite fun – although there was a LOT of fussy cutting!

More texture paste on these pages, along with some mica spray. For the snow on this last page I used Pearlescent medium instead of plain texture paste.

I’ve really enjoyed making this journal, I think the Field Notes Journal is my current favourite, the scalloped edge is just so pretty, and I think my rose gold texture roll on the edges is now my new thing to do on all journals!

Sizzix Eileen Hull Chapter 3 – Field Notes Journal

I can’t tell you how obsessed I am with this new journal die from Eileen Hull. I love all her journals, but this one is now my favourite. I really like the design, and the landscape format (of course you could flip it to have a top folding notebook if you prefer).

When mine arrived, I instantly knew I wanted to create a journal following the Field Notes theme, full of botanicals and butterflies, and incorporating so many of my older stamp and die sets.

I’m warning you now – this blog post has a LOT of photos. I went totally overboard with this one – I couldn’t put it down for nearly a week, and even now, I feel I’d like to go back and add some more to it!

So on the front cover, I used the frame that comes with the journal and added some vellum behind it, then a little butterfly cigarette card. The papers I used throughout the journal are from 49 & Market, and I also added some Tim Holtz collage paper and chipboard sentiment.

Inside the front cover, more 49 & Market papers, together with the little folder from the Envelope, Folder & Flowers die set. The stamps are Aall & Create, and I added a few little bits of ephemera into the folder.

For the pages inside the journal I used the journal die to create pages that had the same shape as the journal. I created a little hinge from cream card, then sandwiched that between two sheets of kraft card so that my pages were nice and sturdy and could take the weight of all the layers.

I had great fun rummaging through my boxes of ephemera that I’ve collected over the years, and it felt good to actually use some of it (I’m terrible at hoarding nice things!). I had bought some chipboard elements to match the 49 & Market papers, and I had a lot of Tim Holtz ephemera and they all worked so well together.

This little folder is from the Tim Holtz Specimen die set – the elements in that collection work so well with this journal.

The flower here is from the Folder, envelope and flower die set, along with a 49 & Market frame.

I even did a little bit of stitching! I stamped the butterflies on a scrap of fabric, then took a piece of cardboard box, dry brushed some gesso on it, then stitched the fabric to it before attaching it to the page. I love how it turned out.

For the back of the journal I used the same collage papers as the front, then a fern and butterfly from the 49 & Market collection.

I punched holes in the pages so that I could attach them to the journal with seam binding (I used cream seam binding and soaked it in tea to give this lovely vintage colour). I also added a little metal hardware piece (Tim Holtz).

Hope you’ve enjoyed seeing this journal. I really enjoyed making it and can’t wait to do more (I’ve been scouring antique shops for old botanical books and ephemera so watch this space!)

Sizzix Eileen Hull new release

Hi everyone, hope you managed to catch the launch party on Eileen Hull’s facebook group yesterday – if not it’s worth checking out.

I’m back today with the rest of the projects I made with her new Chapter 2 release. First project is this sea themed Card Case. I used papers from Stamperia to create this kind of steam punk/ocean themed case with lots of texture.

I covered some Sizzix mat board with the papers, and covered with a clear varnish. I dry brushed some metallic paint over the cover in places, and added some textured embossing powder to give a rusty/patina look. I added the pocket on one side, and added some cards cut with the journaling die set as well as some tags.

On the other side, I added a little notebook – also covered with some of the papers.

I created a fastening with Sizzix Texture roll in the tan colour. I used some magnets from Carnation Crafts to hold the fastening in place.

For my next project I created another Card Case – this time a more simple design where I chopped off the folding part so it’s more of a little notebook/journal than a case.

I covered the mat board with Sizzix Texture roll in white, then took another piece of texture roll and embossed it with the Tim Holtz Mosaic embossing folder. I used Oxide sprays and Foundry wax and gold acrylic paint to give it some texture.

For the inside, I made some envelopes with the Journaling card, Envelope & Window die set, and attached them to the inside with the Bookbinding and Label die set that came out last year.

Finally for today, a couple of cards showing the fabulous Mini Slimline & Tickets die set. So many different ways to use these, so I’m looking forward to making more cards with them.

Sizzix Eileen Hull Chapter 2 Blog Hop

It’s another amazing release from Eileen Hull. I just love how versatile her designs are, and that they are basically blank canvases, for any style you choose. I’ve got some more projects to share over the next couple of days but today I’m just going to share this one, it’s a little recipe book made using the new Card Case Bigz die.

So let’s start with what’s in this release. First is the Bigz die – the Card Case. It’s a Scoreboards XL die, so that means it can be used with either the standard Big Shot, or the Plus/Switch. You just need the extended cutting pads if you’re using it with the standard Big Shot, Foldaway or the Express. I’ll put links at the end of this post to everything you might need.

The next die in this release is the Journaling Card, Envelope and Window. This is really an add-on to any journalling dies you already have. It creates a really cool envelope and journalling card, with options to add a window and customise it. The card fits perfectly in the little pocket you create in the Card Case, so it’s great if you want to use it to create your own ephemera, or add photos or journaling. It’s a thinlits die set so will work with most die cutting machines.

Final die set in this release is the Mini Slimline and Tickets. This is similar to the Snail Mail version out last year. I can be used to create an interesting background or you can snip along the dots to create apertures, or individual tickets (great to use with ticket style stamps, or for sentiments). You get one larger panel and then a strip.

Back to today’s project. I had some really nice papers from Studio Light that had featured on a show I did on Create and Craft TV. I really loved the papers, and the kind of Tuscan feel they had, so I decided to theme my Card Case around those. Since they have a bit of a lemon theme, I thought a recipe book would be a great way to use them. I looked up some lemon recipes and used the cards from the Journaling Card die set to make little recipe cards, then decorated the whole thing with the papers.

I picked out some of the die cut elements from the paper pad to decorate the reverse side of the recipes and to add more cards.

With the Card Case, it’s kind of double sided, and wraps around itself, so could be used in many ways, and you can choose whether to add the pocket, and whether you want it on both sides or just one.

I decided to just add one pocket to put my recipe cards in, then to create a thin pocket on the other side to add tags. Then in the centre, I added a little note book, which is attached to the spine of the case with elastic cord.

Where the case wraps round, I added a little vellum sentiment along with a die cut.

I used the little button from the Bigz die on the inside of the spine to hold the ribbon in place to create a fastening.

I was so pleased with this. It’s a great way to use up some of those lovely scrapbook papers you’ve been hoarding!

Eileen Hull Sizzix Chapter 4 Launch Party

Chapter 4 is finally here! Each release is so exciting and it never gets old…

Eileen has 3 products in this release, all a little bit different.

First up is the Geometric box, here’s what Eileen had to say about it…

The Geometric Box is a different kind of design for me. I love the ease of assembly, the unique shape and and the possibility of expanding the box into larger containers! This is a ScoreBoards die so it may be cut from sturdy materials like matboard, chipboard, metal, leather and fabric. The finished box measures 4” h x 3” w x 4” d… or so… a fun feature of this die is that it adapts to how you shape it. You’ll see 🙂 Watch my livestream videos to show how to expand the possibilities of this die.

Use the Geometric Box for storage- for pencils, silverware, flowers, or tools. The box may also be used as a gift container- imagine adding teabags, a pretty silver spoon and a bow as a get well gift!

And here’s my project using the Geometric box, I decided to make a little gift box, using Rose Gold Texture roll to cover my box, and then I cut some extra panels and embossed them with the Acorns embossing folder by Tim Holtz. I had some ceramic knobs lying around and I thought the bright blue would look lovely against the rose gold. I created a little hinge for the lid, just with a couple of strips of texture roll.

Next is the beautiful sunflower…..

The Sunflower is a Bigz L steel rule die- designed to cut and score a myriad of materials. The Sunflower is BIG- it measures about 4″ across and comes with a leaf, three sizes of petals and a flower center! Stack layers of petals to make a traditional sunflower, or change colors and create a pink coneflower. The basic shape is there for you to create your own flowers! Make a stem for the flower using wire and your Twist and Style Tool. The coordinating Geometric Box die works perfectly as a vase.

I love the big bold size of the sunflower, it would be great cut from felt for home decor projects. I have other things in mind for this, as I like Autumn projects and feel that the sunflower works so well with Autumn schemes. I decided to make a card and combine the sunflower with one of the new Sizzix Stencil sets.

Last up for this release is a fabulous 3D embossing folder. I love the vintage style to this. Here’s what Eileen had to say about it…..

I love the whimsical patterns of vintage cutlery and that’s why I created this Silverware 3D embossing folder! The design is so detailed you can actually see a tiny bride and groom on the handle of a cake server.

This folder is perfect for creating seating charts, menus, invitations, cards and recipe books. You would be surprised at the many materials you can emboss- metal, paper, cardboard, Sizzix texture roll and more. Once you have embossed the image, rub a light coat of a metallic Luster Wax over the top of the design and you have an amazing result!

I haven’t had a chance to make anything with the embossing folder yet, but I have lots of ideas! I’m on Create and Craft TV with this new release on 17/18th October so by then I should have lots of fabulous projects to share with you!

Today is launch day for Eileen’s new Sizzix release, it’s a fabulous collection and I can’t wait to bring these dies and embossing folders to Create and Craft in a couple of week’s time.

The ScoreBoards Skinny Mini Book Box is a really great size- it measures 6 3/4″ x 4″ with an adjustable built in spine from 3/8″ to 2 1/4″. This die may be used to create a book by die cutting two covers OR a box if you add the side pieces to the covers. If you add the box supports, it will hold mini-slimline size cards.

The Skinny Mini Elements Thinlits will cut a cool star pattern that perfectly covers the front of the Skinny Mini book or the front of a slimline card. And you can also expand the size of the design to create a whole page pattern.

I have been wanting to make a Card Caddy die for a while… so many people are making cards these days that I figured that they would love to have the ability to make a really pretty container to hold them. I love the shape of this box and it goes together so quickly- also fun to decorate! It will hold cards up to 5 1/4″ wide.

The 3D folder is called Woven Leather and it looks so realistic! Makes a great background for cards, journal pages or covers”.

I’m already thinking that card caddy’s filled with cards would make lovely Christmas presents, so that’s something else to add to my ‘to do’ list!

I’m also very happy to have another journal option – I absolutely love making journals, and how lovely does the Skinny Mini Elements die look on the front?

Sizzix Eileen Hull Shadow Box dies

I made this lovely framed piece recently for a Facebook live, so thought I’d share some instructions on making it.

I used the largest frame die from the Shadow Box #2 set for the frame, and cut it four times to make a square.

This frame measures 15.5cm x 15.5cm, so I cut a piece of kraft card that size for the backing, then added some pale aqua card to the front.

I then used a Tim Holtz stencil (THS004) to add some uneven stripes with Sizzix Texture paste. I then added some Prima Sparks acrylic paint on top, in a rainbow. For the rest of the background I did a little bit of stamping in brown ink (Tim Holtz Papillon and Studio Light Jenine’s Mindful Art Collection). Once the ink had dried I dry-brushed some gesso on the background.

To create a little ledge for the houses, I cut two strips of mat board and stuck them back to back, then covered with a piece of frayed burlap. I cut the houses from kraft card and backed them with some patterned paper and an old book page. I added them with foam pads to give a bit of dimension.

I then dry-brushed some gesso on the frame, on the front and sides, then added some Tim Holtz Crackle Texture paste with a spatula and set aside to dry.
