Sizzix Eileen Hull Launch Party!

Today is the day! Eileen’s fabulous new release is here. It’s actually an old classic making a re-appearance and I’m delighted about that as I missed this when it was first out.

Here’s what Eileen had to say about it, “You asked for it- we did it! The Classic Cantilever Sewing Box, Embroidery Hoop and Needle Book dies have been brought back because you asked 🙂 These dies all relate to stitching but of course may also be used in other ways. They are all Bigz dies which are so versatile because of the number of materials that may be cut with them.

I have fond memories of my Mom’s wooden sewing box and designed this Cantilever Sewing Box to replicate that. It’s great for storing sewing supplies like needles, thread, buttons, floss and pins- but it also works for hair bands and clips, small storage items, jewelry, desk organization and small treats. Use the drawers separately to organize your desk drawers or create a shadowbox- so many ways to use! Finished size is

3 1/2” x 6 1/4” x 2 1/4”.

The Embroidery Hoop measures 4” and is designed to be cut from thick material such as matboard or chipboard. You can actually tuck thin fabrics in the hoop and stitch on them. Or you can die cut from paper and use the hoop on card fronts. Use the pieces separately or all together.

The Needle Book is also a ScoreBoard die and features a pretty scalloped edge to the book. It measures 3 1/2” x 2 1/4″ x 1/2″ and is perfect for storing your stitching needles and pins- works great when made from felt! But it can also be made from matboard, chipboard, leather or fabric- one of the benefits of the Bigz dies.

Even though I really can’t sew at all, I’m really enjoying creating with these dies. The Cantilever box could be used for some many things (and those that like to customise could very easily adapt the design to create all sorts of configurations). 

The Needle book makes a very cute mini notebook too, and it’s very easy to add little notebooks or pages to it if you don’t want to use fabric or felt to make a needle book.

I think the embroidery hoop is my favourite though, because really, an embroidery hoop is just a really nice way to frame all sorts of art. It can be cut from card or mountboard and be used on a card front or as a stand-alone frame. It’s just a nice size to work with, and I know I’ll be using this a lot.

Create & Craft TV shows – Eileen Hull favourites

Well, I’m very excited about my shows on Monday – two shows of literally all my favourite things! It’s the Best of Eileen Hull, so a bit of a round up of all her best selling dies.

As you know, I’m a huge fan of her journals, and on the show we’ve got the Folio and Wrapped Journals, which I guess are probably the most versatile of all because they have fold around elements you can use or cut off to create different styles of journal.

So first is the Folio Journal. This one has a flap at the front and back of the journal that wraps around, then, there’s a separate element that enables you to enclose that piece, to create like a little box type element which is great if you want to add in separate notebooks, or maybe even a gift.

What I also like about the Folio is that it’s a nice square size, so it really gives a nice area to decorate, and works really well with the various 3-D embossing folders.

Next is the Wrapped Journal. This one also has a wrap around element, but it folds all the way round from the back, making this one ideal for using with leather/fabric, because it doesn’t necessarily need to be a rigid design.

Next is the very fun, Camper die, this creates such a cute 3D camper, that has a kind of box inside, that you can use to add a gift. Of course, you can also use the camper element without making it into the full 3D version, it looks fabulous on a card or journal front.

Another fun 3-D die, this is the Post Box. A great one for creating little savings boxes for kids, of perhaps for a wedding for guests to post little messages. Of course you can also use it as a fun gift box.

This is the Display Stand. It’s perfect for displaying a calendar, or photos, but on this sample I added some magnetic sheet, so I could use it to pop on my desk and hold my thin metal dies while I work.

The Vintage Button embossing folder and Floral Contours dies have been included on the shows because they work so well with the various journals and other dies.

Phew, that’s a round up of most of the items on the show – I told you it was a great mix of faves!

Sizzix Eileen Hull Book Box

Today I’m sharing a little tutorial on this gift box/book, using the new Eileen Hull Book Box Bigz die.

It can be used to create journals, or a lovely box in a book, which is ideal for adding a gift to, or as I did in this case, some handmade cards.

I’ve listed below all the products used (with links), but of course, you can use whatever papers and materials you have to cover your journal.

  1. Take three pieces of Sizzix white Matboard and cover with double sided adhesive roll (I’m in the UK and buy my rolls from Crafty Devils, but you can find similar on Amazon).
  2. I covered two pieces of matboard with Mint Julep, then the other with Limoncello.
  3. Run the mint julep covered pieces through. This will give you two sets of each of the elements (because you will need two covers, and two sets to form the box. You can trim down the piece covered with Lemoncello so it just covers the spine section as that’s all you need from that (or you can cut it all and just save the extra pieces for other books).
  4. I used red line tape to attach the spine to the front and back cover, and to assemble and attach the box section. The easiest way I found to tape the box part is to lay them out end to end and tape them together.
  5. If you want to strengthen the box section, once you’ve assembled it and stuck it into the book, cut some strips of the mint julep texture roll, about 1 inch wide, then stick around the outside. It strengthens the box, but also makes it look neater.
  6. I cut another piece of mint julep texture roll to fit inside the box area, and embossed this with the new Vintage Buttons embossing folder. It just makes the inside a little neater as it covers up where the box is taped to the back cover.
  7. To decorate the cover, I kept it bright and simple with more texture roll. I used Primrose, Ballet Slipper and Limoncello, then some green cardstock for the leaves. I added my niece’s name using the Sizzix Handwritten Alphabet die. I find that using texture roll is a much better option when decorating journals, because it’s less likely to scuff or tear than cardstock, so if I have the right colour in texture roll, I’ll always use that in preference to card.
  8. For the notecard, I carried on the same design, and used a Mint Julep notecard so that it matched.

Sizzix Spring Best-Sellers

I’m back at Create and Craft TV on 7 January with a lovely selection of dies. First up is this lovely Jar of Flowers die set by Lisa Jones – it has a dimensional dome that matches so you can create fabulous shaker cards in seconds.

We’ve got the domes on the show too, so if you love using them this could be a good chance to stock up!

Also on the show is this Birthday Candle die. It’s one of my favourites, because I love how you can use the panel on any size card, but also use the candles on their own if you just want one or two. Of course I had to create a little rainbow!

If you have any weddings this year, then you might like this next die set – it’s called Confetti Pockets, and it creates these lovely little pockets along with some hearts and circles to make your own confetti.

There’s also one of my favourite embossing folders on the show, the Folk Doodle folder.

There are a few more dies on the show, but I won’t share all of them or this post will be too long!

Sizzix Eileen Hull new releases

There are some lovely new dies in the Sizzix Chapter One release, and Eileen Hull has a really fabulous new journal die. It’s called the Folio Journal, and it creates a lovely square journal with lots of options to configure it in different ways.

As it’s easier to see in real life than photos, I’ve put together a couple of videos. The first is an overview and shows you her new dies, and the second video is an in-depth tutorial to make the journal above.
