My next class is coming up soon, and it’s a mix of both Christmas cards and some general occasion cards. I know everyone will love this little Christmas pudding as his legs swing side to side which is fun.

Spellbinders Christmas cards

I have a few cards to share with the latest release from Spellbinders. It’s a lovely mix of elegant and fun!

This first card is very elegant, the Evergreen embossing folder makes a rich background, then I’ve added some of the Christmas Sprigs in gold, green and red.

Another elegant card, but this time with a cooler colour scheme. I used the Notched Corner Florals embossing folder and added a simple sentiment.

Now for fun! This cute little figgy pudding is really fun, the legs swing, which makes a lovely interactive card. The background is the Monoline Stars embossing folder, and I added just a little gold luster wax here and then to highlight it.

Spellbinders Dancin’ Day of the Dead Boy

I absolutely adore this new Halloween/Day of the Dead set from Spellbinders (there are other characters in the collection too).

What’s really cool is that the legs move from side to side – there’s a little circle cut out at the top of the die cut so you just add a foam pad in the centre and it allows the legs to swing.

Lots of cardmaking with the Sizzix Painted Birds die set

If you caught my Sizzix shows on Create and Craft TV last week, you might have heard me mention that I planned to do some crafting for myself at the weekend using the gorgeous Painted Birds die set.

I like to work a few months ahead with the birthday cards I send to friends, so my aim was to make enough cards to cover me until August!

This card with the little apertures was my favourite sample from the shows (but I couldn’t demo it there because the card shape die is from Studio Light, not Sizzix). Obviously, the way I craft for TV shows is a bit different than how I craft for myself because in real life we mix up the products don’t we?

I used a mixture of sentiments to go with the birds, (I’ll add links at the bottom of the post to all the products), but the sentiments are a Sizzix set called Variety Sentiments, and a Spellbinders set called Everyday Sentiments.

As well as birthday cards, I used the same design to make my dad’s Father’s Day card…

This was a good design for batch making, and also for using up card scraps, because you end up cutting from 5 different colours of card for the birds, that means you’ve basically got enough for 5 birds at a time which speeds it up considerably.

Spellbinders, Photosynthesis by Simon Hurley

Spellbinders Victorian Collection by Susan Tierney

How fabulous is this little mason jar filled with lavender? I think it’s my favourite from this month’s new dies from Spellbinders. I’ve always loved a mason jar, and the design on this one is really pretty. I’ve used some white glossy Sizzix card as I thought that would give the look of a painted jar and be just a bit different. This would look really stunning cut from vellum, with some alcohol marker behind in blue to look like water. I really like the way the lavender sits in it too – it has a slot at the top so you can arrange it nicely inside.

There’s also some other really nice foliage in this collection, and for my next card I used it to create both the background and the focal point.

I die cut several of the foliage elements from the same colour green as the card front, then stuck them on top with PVA glue to give the look of an embossed background. I then used a sponge to drag some acrylic paint over (Dina Wakley acrylic in Lime and Turquoise).

I then die cut two of the foliage dies from rose gold card – one mirror and one matte. The sentiment strip is the same green as the background card and I added a foiled sentiment to finish it off.

For my last card, I kept it VERY simple. I used the Fern Glimmer plate, and once I’d added it to the card I couldn’t bear to cover any of it! My initial plan had been to add some foliage, but it looked so nice I kept it as it was (I can always add a small sentiment when I come to send it to someone).

Spellbinders – Bibi’s Hummingbirds

Bibi Cameron has a fabulous new collection for Spellbinders called Bibi’s Hummingbirds. I used the stencil and Pop up Hummingbird die set to create this card.

I put all the info in a video so you can see how I created that colourful background in detail…

Spellbinders Four Petal Collection

Another stunning collection from Spellbinders. So many beautiful elements to this collection.

I’ve used 3 different sets from the collection – the Four Petal Floral embossing folder, the Thank You Floral die set, and the Making Me Smile Glimmer Foil plate.

For my first card, I kept it very simple. The embossing folder is so stunning I didn’t want to cover it at all. So I just highlighted it with some gold wax, and added a sentiment (from the Thank You Floral die set). It’s a big embossing folder (this card is 5×7), so you can easily just use parts of it if you like.

For my next card, I decided to use the florals from the Thank You floral set, then add just a strip from the embossing folder (and I kept it white so it didn’t distract from the flowers). I also used one of the foiled sentiments. I used some of the Spellbinders foil in a lovely pewter colour.

For my final card, I used the foliage from the Four Petal Thank you Floral, but I didn’t quite use it as intended – it’s intended that you’d place the flowers on the little round areas, but I thought they also looked like berries, so I went for a very simple look. Again I used the embossing folder in the background in white for a subtle look, and one of the foiled sentiments (this time in gold). This is a smaller 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card so illustrates how you can use a part of the embossing folder.
